Central Rail Brewing Company provides small batch craft beers, served directly from kegs in the taproom and sold exclusively for on premise consumption. Our brewing partner is Freewheel Brewing Company, located in Redwood City, California. Through their generosity, we are able to brew our beers and sell from their taproom.

As a small startup brewing business, we have the luxury of providing a beer offering that changes with the seasons and the whims of our head brewer.

Though our beer is brewed and served in Redwood City, our roots are in Sunnyvale. We hope to develop a strong local following to continue to deliver fresh, locally brewed beer to our fans.

Historical Note

Our name, Central Rail Brewing Company, is taken from Sunnyvale’s history.  The Murphy family, founders of Sunnyvale, donated land in 1860 to extend the San Francisco-San Jose railroad across their property, and were awarded a train stop, which was named Murphy’s Station.  This railroad was eventually absorbed into the Central Pacific Railroad, which was the company that started building the western portion of the Transcontinental Railroad in 1863.

Today’s Caltrain commuter rail station in downtown Sunnyvale is just a stone’s throw from the location of the original Murphy’s Station.

Sunnyvale’s proud tradition in railroading led us to name our brewery Central Rail Brewing to reflect our local heritage.

We’d love to hear from you. Tell us what you think!
